What is evil?

 One year Proverb 3:7-8

Do not be wise in your own eyes

Fear the Lord and depart from evil

It will be healthy to your flesh

And strength to your bones.

I wonder how many times I feel sick because I am being wise in my own eyes? ( Pride) To stay healthy we're to 1. Fear the Lord 2. Depart from evil

I need to ask the Lord what I am doing that may be evil in His sight. I may have a blindness to it. I often think of evil as these big horrible things people do, but God doesn't think like I do. If thinking I'm wise or have things figured out on my own is coupled with a phrase about departing from evil, maybe I don't have the same definition as God? So, Lord, what is considered evil to you? I know you said in Matthew if we, being evil, give good gifts to our children how much more you who are good will give us. So help me understand what you see as being evil so I can depart from it.

Would you, my reader like to hear what my revelation was?

Evil is anything that comes from your self- if it comes out of self motivation, self ideas, selfish desires, that is evil. It is thinking of you and the created before you think of the Creator. It's the wrong approach to kingdom living. That's why I (Jesus) taught you to pray deliver us from evil...

Lord, change the way I think so I no longer put self first but God first in all things. Help me depart from evil

  1. That's really interesting, because recently in studying the Fall in Genesis, I felt like the Lord showed me something about pride, that it's really about self. Self-service, self-preservation, putting self first, etc. "It's what I want". And I think that is where all of our sin starts. Just a little "self". It's not that bad ... And if you think about it, this was also the cause of Satan's fall. "I'm too amazing to serve. I want to BE served. I'm afraid I do this same sin in 1000 different ways and call it rest, boundaries, me-time, etc.

    1. Hannah I am so excited you found this blog! Thank you for your comment. I, too, disguise my sin in justifying excuses that can sound pious in nature. I guess it's why I need to cry out like David ..create in me a clean heart oh God!
