Courage and faith like Asa
Now Asa had an army of 300,00 from Judah, bearing large shields and spears, and 280,000 from Benjamin, bearing shields and wielding bows; all of them were valiant warriors. Now Zerah the Ethiopian came out against them with an army of a MILLION men and 300 chariots...(2 Chronicles 14: 8-9)
At this point I would turn and run. I can't even imagine a million soldiers. I can't imagine the fear that would run through my body and mind. But look what Asa does. vs. 11: Then Asa called to the Lord his God and said, "Lord, there is no one besides You to help in the battle between the powerful and those who have no strength; so help us , O Lord our God, for we trust in You, and in Your name have come against this multitude. O Lord, You are our God; let not man prevail against You."
The end of the story...God wins. He rerouted the army, defeated the million and Asa's army won. Amazing!
I need to remember how to do this. In starting a new school it often feels like I am coming against millions of soldiers and oppositions. I sometimes feel like no matter how valiant my soldiers are we are too few and too weak to stand against the forces that are against us. This is where I must learn from Asa. Call out to the Lord. Recognize there is no one like him. Declare my trust in him. Recognize my inability. Ask for no man to prevail against him. I am finding the most simple strategies are nestled in the prayers of these amazing leaders. Oh may I always remember to apply the Word for it is truly living!
Maybe you are facing your millions today. Read this part of 2 Chronicles and be encouraged by the faith and courage of Asa. I think we need to keep it simple when we face our obstacles. Call upon the Lord. Trust Him. Acknowledge our weakness. Declare His strength.
Amen.
